The 4 Pillars of Disease (Part 1) | KC & Monica…

KC: So there are four pillars of disease that we’ve discovered in our research, that there are normal metabolic processes in the body and they matter in every chronic disease with rare exception. So we’re going to go through a little bit and talk about the four pillars. But if you can modulate or regulate these four pillars, then you can stop and even reverse disease.

Monica: So what we want to do is with these four pillars, we’re going to define them. Let’s start with the first one. Our biggest problem that contributes to these four pillars of disease is our addiction to sugar. Did you know that 100 years ago, the average person consumed five pounds of sugar per person per year? Do anybody other than my children know what the number is now? How many pounds of sugar? Just holler cause I can’t…

Speaker 1: 75!

Speaker 2: 100!

Monica: 75. 100. It’s 150 pounds of sugar every year per person. And we don’t really eat that much sugar, so someone’s eating ours.

KC: You’ll see it’s an inflammatory food. We all hear sugar’s bad. We’re not here just to tell you sugar’s bad, we’re here to tell you the processes that are going on in your life and how you can simply work through them. So we’re going to tell them how to reverse sugar before we go to the here, how to reverse sugar addiction. And it’s kind of simple. Basically, you stop eating sugar. Well that’s just the piece of it, so if you’ll commit to stop eating sugar for two to three weeks and minimizing it thereafter.

Monica: First pillar, inflammation. Now we all know what inflammation is but how would you describe it?

KC: So the process of inflammation is the way the body uses the immunity and it’s really good. And what’s not good is when your inflammation becomes chronic and then they put an “-itis” on the end of it. So how many people, a doctor told you you had some kind of “-itis?” Okay, all that means is you’ve chronic inflammation in that area and they don’t quite know what to name it.

Monica: All right, so how, KC, other than drugs, can we deal with inflammation?

KC: Well, it’s interesting that there are a lot of anti-inflammatory foods, but once again you’re going to see… And we invite you to take pictures of any of these lists, because they are important and we’re not going to spend a lot of time on them. But you’ll see that there’s a lot of foods that actually go against the chronic inflammation process without compromising the body’s ability to do inflammation for immunity. So these are a lot of them.

Monica: All right, so let’s take a look at the second pillar, which is oxidation.

KC: Who has heard of oxidation? Okay.

Monica: I’ve heard of antioxidants, so why do we want to take antioxidants?

KC: Okay, so oxidation technically speaking is when a molecule is robbed of an electron and it becomes unstable and causes DNA damage, cellular damage and other damage. You have to have antioxidants to squinch it. So antioxidants will squinch and often reverse oxidants but it’s a little more complex.

Doctor Lester Packer, he’s an antioxidant researcher, wrote a book called the Antioxidant Miracle about 15 or 20 years ago, still part of my library and I recommend you also have it part of your library. But he identified this core antioxidant network that included vitamin C, vitamin E, glutathione, CoQ10 and lipoic acid. These core antioxidants would help restore each other when they’d become an oxidant.

So the point that’s important here is that antioxidants squinch oxidation, but now we have a life that is bombarded with radiation and environmental hazards and all kinds of things and stress. So we need more antioxidants, and we discovered many more to support the antioxidant network, which again, is important for life itself.

I’ll tell you something real quick, there will not be a test, but there are six major classes of oxidants. That means there’s six things, six reactive oxidant species that are trying to take you out. Peroxyl, hydroxyl, peroxyacetyl nitrate, superoxide anion, singlet oxygen, and hypochlorite.

Monica: He’s so smart, isn’t he?

Right, so take a picture of this next slide if you want to. These are some of things that you can eat to squinch excess oxidation in the body. Taking down one of those pillars of disease, four pillars.

KC: Are you all noting some of the similarities in these foods? It’s very interesting.

Monica: All right, let’s look at the third pillar is glycation. Now KC, I want to ask you, this man, he is so handsome. Why is his face our slide for glycation?

KC: Yes. What is the core reason for that?

Speaker 3: Wrinkles.

Monica: For the wrinkles, he said wrinkles.

Speaker 4: Hydration. Dry.

Monica: Hydration, dry.

KC: Sugar. This is a perfect example of collagen cross-linking. It happens as a result of a process called glycation. So glycation happens in the body, it’s a normal process. We haven’t discovered, and I’ll have to ask Dr. [Kavin] or somebody, is there a good function to glycation in the body? I’m not really sure. So glycation forms end products called advanced glycated end products, so it’s age. So it really is an example of age. So what happens is that when glycation reaction happens, the results is AGEs. And then AGEs while start wrecking, and we used to think it was only proteins that could get caramelized. And you have this great example of caramelization.

Monica: Yeah, like when you eat crème brûlée at a restaurant, you know, and they come and get the fire on top for the sugar and it caramelizes that. That’s what glycation is.

KC: Yeah, imagine you have a raw egg white in your eyeball. And imagine through a glycation reaction it heated it somewhat and it turns white. That essentially is a cataract. So when you think of glycation, we used to think only proteins will get glycated or caramelized like the crème brûlée. In fact, my kids think I’m crazy. When I get a crème brûlée, I say, “please don’t put the sugar on top and don’t burn it.

Monica: They’re like “give me the sugar.”

KC: Yeah, exactly. Now in addition to proteins, amino acids are glycated, enzymes are glycated, fats are glycated.

Monica: And then are they not usable when they’re glycated?

KC: They’re not usable.

Monica: They’re stiff, they’re stuck.

KC: So here’s two things, you have glycation reaction in the body caused by high sugar and high blood sugar levels. Yet another reason to bring your blood sugar down, because all-cause mortality is lower at 85 or lower on blood sugar.

Monica: This is some foods and supplements that you can eat to minimize and reverse glycation. We need a vacation from glycation, leave the sugar at home.

All right, let’s go to the next pillar of disease, angiogenesis. I want to break this word down, because it is a big word. It was a big word for me. Angio, means blood vessels. Genesis means creation of. So angiogenesis is the creation of blood vessels, which isn’t that a good thing?

KC: It’s a good thing. It’s a great thing. If it’s working properly. So angiogenic vessels when you’re growing, let’s say it’s when you cut your knee or something, the restructure is made from angiogenic vessels. If a woman has a menstrual period, all that structure is made from angiogenic vessels. So there’s a lot of good functions for angiogenesis.

Monica: Muscle growth, children growing.

KC: Pregnancy, the whole thing. The whole growth process. So angiogenesis is a great process unless it goes awry. And why does it go awry? When you allow inflammation and oxidation to go ramped, then you have an environment where a cancer cell can send a protein out and draw an angiogenic vessel and now you have cancer cells that are being merged.

Monica: So this next slide is anti-angiogenic drugs that are out on the market right now.

KC: Yeah, so quickie, huge area of research for pharmaceutical companies. You notice then that there’s some doubling of life span. Now it’s pretty sad that success is three and a half years and doubling that is success. I don’t see that as success. But you can see it’s important.

Monica: And all drugs have side effects as we know. But let’s look at some of the foods and supplements that you can take.

KC: Yeah. The really good news is these foods have been shown to outperform anti-angiogenic drugs. But again, thinking about organic and non-GMO is really important, because you don’t want to take in another toxin when you’re trying to accomplish this.
