Former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld Dies at 88

Former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld has died on Wednesday at 88 years old, his family announced.

Rumself, who served as Secretary of Defense the under former President George W. Bush, played a central role in the Iraq and Afghanistan invasion in 2003 and helped craft the false “weapons of mass destruction” narrative for the Iraq War.

When questioned in 2002 over the lack of evidence linking Iraq to supposed “WMDs”, Rumsfeld offered this now-infamous quote:

“There are known knowns, things we know that we know; and there are known unknowns, things that we know we don’t know. But there are also unknown unknowns, things we do not know we don’t know.”
