The July 22 Israeli strikes on Syria targeted al-Daba Air Base which is located in the southern countryside of Homs, near the border with Lebanon.

Al-Daba air base, formerly operated by the Syrian Arab Air Force, is now held by Hezbollah. The base is reportedly the Lebanese group’s main logistic center in Syria.

Satellite images released by the Aurora Intel Twitter account revealed that the strikes had inflicted some serious damage on the air base. At least six hardened aircraft shelters (HAS) were either destroyed or badly damaged. Furthermore, large parts of the base were scorched.

A number of Israeli missiles were reportedly intercepted by the Syrian Arab Air Defense Forces before they could reach their targets.

No human losses were reported as a result of the strikes, which took place in the early morning hours. Al-Daba air base may have been evacuated ahead of the strikes.

This was the second Israeli attack on Syria this week. On July 19, Israeli warplanes hit several targets in the eastern countryside of Aleppo. A Syrian service members and two pro-government fighters were killed.

Israel hopes that its repeated attacks would force Syria to distance itself from the so-called “Axis of Resistance”. This will not likely happen anytime soon.
