Worldwide, more than 422 million people now suffer from diabetes. There are two categories of diabetic disorders, known as type 1 and type 2. Type 1 diabetes is generally caused by a genetic defect that leads to an insufficient production of insulin in the body and requires regular insulin injections to control blood sugar levels. The majority of diabetic patients, however, develop the type II version of the disease. In type II diabetes, the pancreas does not produce enough insulin and cells respond poorly to it and take in less sugar.
Conventional medicine is confined to treating the symptoms of type 2 diabetes by lowering elevated blood levels of sugar.
