ESPN Fires Betting Analyst Over Nine-Year-Old Deleted Tweets

ESPN has fired sports betting analyst Kelly Stewart before her first day over nine-year-old tweets that she had already acknowledged several years ago when working for Turner Sports. Back in 2012, Kelly responded badly to taunts thrown her way on Twitter, replying with “homophobic slurs” to her attackers (she reportedly called one attacker a “fag”). She had already suffered a suspension over the tweets from a former employer. Still, ESPN apparently didn’t bother to take note of the situation before hiring her, and last month, ESPN hired her as its new sports betting analyst. That happy announcement soon turned to despair, however, as on Friday, ESPN reversed itself and released Stewart from her contract over the old tweets, Front Office Sports reported. Stewart explained to her fans that ESPN terminated her: I wanted to put out a statement on today’s news so all of you could see my thoughts. pic.twitter.com/MvCsLlHhLw — Kelly (@kellyinvegas) June 4, 2021 “I know the words I used are unacceptable and hurtful, but I cannot apologize for the vicious attacks I, and so many other female personalities, endure from anonymous online trolls,” she explained in her statement. “I’m not proud of everything

Knicks to Refuse Admission to Unvaccinated Fans if They Advance in Playoffs

The New York Knicks recently announced that if they advance to the second round of the playoffs, they won’t sell tickets to those not vaccinated for the coronavirus. The team made its announcement on Friday, telling fans that no one who is unvaccinated will be allowed to attend games at the Big Apple’s Madison Square Garden. According to a team press release: The New York Knicks today announced that Game 5 of their 2021 NBA playoffs series against the Atlanta Hawks, scheduled for June 5, has sold out. This follows Game 1, when the Knicks welcomed more than 15,000 fans and Game 2, when they expanded their seating for fully-vaccinated fans and increased capacity to more than 16,000. The two games mark the largest indoor crowds to gather in New York since the start of the pandemic. Given the enthusiastic response to vaccination requirements, the team also announced that, should they advance past round one, tickets will be sold exclusively to fully-vaccinated individuals. “The energy our Knicks fans have brought to the playoffs has been incredible — proving there’s nothing more exciting than Knicks basketball at The Garden,” said David Hopkinson, EVP, MSG Sports and President, Team Business

ABC Drama 'Station 19': 'We Live in a Culture Built On White Supremacy, So the Racism Is Baked In'

The ABC firehouse drama Station 19 proclaimed that “racism is baked” into the culture of America and “being black in America is a life-threatening condition,” in a recent episode that aired just as the verdict in the Derek Chauvin case was still filtering through America. The line came in the April 22 episode, entitled “Get Up, Stand Up,” in which a grief counselor was called in to push left-wing critical race theories on the firehouse employees in the wake of the death of George Floyd. In the episode set in June of 2020, Captain Maya Bishop (Danielle Savre) called former firefighter Dr. Diane Lewis (Tracie Thoms) to help the station deal with Floyd’s death. The episode went on to show the firemen sharing their deep feelings about race relations in America. At one point, Dr. Ben Warren (Jason George) admitted that he yelled at a police officer even though he has advised his own children never to shout at an officer. He also said that it was dangerous to be a black man in America and that being black is life threatening. “I’m exhausted by navigating in a world that sees me and my kids as a threat,” he said.

Ratings for Midseason Sunday Night Football Game Trounces World Series Game 5

Major League Baseball’s big game lost in the TV ratings game to a midseason football game, as ratings for Game 5 of the World Series cratered. MLB’s fifth game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Tampa Bay Rays lost in viewership to the NFL’s Sunday Night Football, according to Show Buzz Daily. Game 5 of the World Series on Fox peaked with only an average of just over 8.5 million people tuning in, SportsNaut reported. Meanwhile, the Sunday Night Football game between the Cardinals and Seahawks on NBC peaked around 13.7 million viewers and a 4.1 rating among adults aged 18-49. Viewership-wise, the previous World Series games brought in more fans with Game 1 earning 9.2 million viewers, Game 2 a slightly less 8.95 million, 9.84 million for Game 3, and a bit better 10.21 million for Game 4.
