Prebiotics and Probiotics: Why You Need Both for a…

The foods we eat are a lot like seeds, which need to be planted into healthy soils (our digestive systems) in order to grow and bear fruit. We also have gut microflora and various other intestinal elements that act as “water” and “sunlight” to support a bounteous “yield.” In this case the successful digestive conversion of the foods we eat into the substances our bodies need to generate muscle tissue, cellular matrices, energy, and the various other building blocks of life. But what about the fertilizer? It’s something that’s rarely talked about when dealing with the issue of digestive health. Most of the focus centers around probiotics − the “soil” in our digestive tracts that works in tandem with enzymes, bile, hydrochloric acid, and other digestive “juices” to process the foods we eat. As it turns out, probiotics require their own food or “fertilizer” in order to function properly, and many people aren’t getting enough of it to support a healthy microbiome. In other words, their “soils” are deficient or altogether dead, resulting in inadequate uptake and assimilation of nutrients. Without Prebiotics, Probiotics Can’t Do Their Job You’re probably already familiar with probiotics because they’ve gotten a lot

Child Diabetes More Than Doubles After Lockdowns

As the casualty count from lockdowns and other over-the-top COVID-19 response measures continues to climb, it seems that children are yet again bearing the brunt of government incompetence. According to new research, the incidence of type 2 diabetes in children has more than doubled since the pandemic began. Findings from the two separate retrospective chart reviews — one conducted in Washington, DC, and the other in Baton Rouge, Louisiana — were presented June 25 at the virtual American Diabetes Association (ADA) 81st Scientific Sessions. Although the two studies differed somewhat in the clinical parameters examined, both revealed a similar doubling of the rates of hospitalizations for type 2 diabetes among youth during 2020 compared with the same time period in 2019, as well as greater severity of metabolic disturbance. Type 2 diabetes is the most common form of the disease, caused by poor diet and exercise, implicating the lifestyle of the “new normal” in the skyrocketing rates of diagnosis and hospitalization in our children. During the pandemic, the number of cases of type 2 diabetes increased by 182%, from 50 in 2019 to 141 in 2020. The average age at diagnosis was about 14 years in both time periods. In

Cruciferous Vegetables Prove Mainstream Medicine Wrong

Mainstream medicine’s message for decades has been that you cannot change the destiny of your genes. The profession as a whole has neglected to recognize the role of dietary changes in disease prevention, including cancer. Still, to this day, most conventional doctors will only say to patients, “you have to watch what you eat,” (if anything at all), which basically says nothing to the patient. If you are a regular subscriber of our weekly digest, or have watched our Eastern Medicine: Journey Through ASIA documentary, then you know that the food you eat matters! Every time you eat broccoli, broccoli sprouts, cauliflower, or Brussels sprouts, your body converts a key nutrient found in these tasty foods into another one that science has been aggressively researching for its anti-cancer potential. This converted nutrient, known as 3,3′-Diindolylmethane, or DIM, has shown incredible promise in the fight against cancer, demonstrating powerful chemo-protective action that may help in the prevention, suppression, and even reversal of cancer. The precursor to indole-3-carbinol (I3C), which itself is generated following the enzymatic hydrolysis, or breakdown, of glucobrassicin, an indole glucosinolate present in cruciferous vegetables, DIM has been shown in both animal and human studies to inhibit the development of cancer. Detoxifying Cauliflower, Kale, and Pine Nut Confetti…

Humble cauliflower is often overlooked as a leading member of the cruciferous family, but it’s actually one of the healthiest foods on the planet. It boasts a rich supply of health-promoting phytochemicals, anti-inflammatory compounds, and other cancer-busting nutrients. Importantly, cauliflower supports digestion and detoxification. This is due to its sulfur-containing compounds, known as glucosinolates. These compounds break down in your stomach into byproducts during digestion, supporting efficient nutrient absorption as well as toxin and waste removal. This delicious side or main dish also features kale, another superstar cruciferous veggie that provides glucosinolate compounds in addition to vitamins A, C, K, anti-inflammatory omega-3 fatty acids, and calcium. Like cauliflower, kale is filled with fiber and sulfur, both great for detoxifying your body and keeping your liver healthy. The DIM (diindolylmethane) and indole-3-carbinole in cruciferous vegetables such as kale and cauliflower help metabolize and breakdown estrogen in the body. This helps women maintain a healthy balance of hormones, which is critical for overall health, and specifically to lower risk of hormone-driven cancers. Kale is also a good source of quercetin, which has strong anti-inflammatory compounds and prevents tumor cell growth. Quercetin also aids in the removal of excess estrogen from the body by stimulating liver function to detoxify estrogen and other carcinogenic agents. Last, but

FTC targets chiropractor for helping covid patients…

Dr. Eric Nepute, a chiropractor and owner of Quickwork LLC, has pledged to defend himself against the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), which is accusing him of engaging in “deceptive marketing practices” concerning the use of vitamin D and zinc in treating the Wuhan coronavirus (Covid-19). The Department of Justice (DoJ) filed a lawsuit on behalf of the FTC accusing Nepute of violating the COVID-19 Consumer Protection Act (CCPA), which forbids American doctors from prescribing anything other than “Operation Warp Speed” injections and face masks to “cure” the Chinese Virus. Because Nepute has been helping patients stay healthy and protected through the use of vitamins and other offerings from nature, the American government wants to fine or imprison him for committing the “crime” of recommending natural remedies. Passed back in December while Donald Trump was still in office, the CCPA says it is now “illegal” for any American “to engage in deceptive marketing related to the treatment, cure, prevention, mitigation, or diagnosis of COVID-19” – this means nothing other than vaccines and masks for the American cattle. Nepute had been saying that vitamin D and zinc are far more effective at keeping people healthy than injecting mRNA poisons and wearing Chinese cloth over

Pomegranate may help reduce the risk of certain cancers…

A review conducted to explore the anti-cancer properties of pomegranate has found sufficient evidence that supports its use for the prevention of certain cancers. The review looked at cell culture and animal studies, as well as human clinical trials on the use of pomegranate against certain types of cancers. After compiling and analyzing all the data, the team confirmed that pomegranate could help reduce the risk of breast, prostate, lung, colon and skin cancers, as well as hepatocellular carcinoma. According to the review, pomegranates are good sources of antioxidants, phenolic acids and flavonoids. Just the peel of the fruit is rich in ellagitannins, ellagic acid, gallic acid, hydroxybenzoic acids and punicalagin. The researchers said these compounds contribute to the plant’s anti-inflammatory, anti-proliferative, antioxidant and anti-tumorigenic properties. The team added that in the studies they’ve analyzed, pomegranates were able to modulate multiple signaling pathways used by cancer cells. The team also discovered that the polyphenols present in pomegranates exhibited anti-carcinogenic effects in in vitro and in vivo experiments. Moreover, in animal studies, pomegranate extract showed the ability to inhibit the growth of lung, skin, colon and prostate cancer tumors. Meanwhile, in studies that involved human patients, punicalagin was discovered to have chemopreventive and chemotherapeutic properties against cancer cells. “The therapeutic potential of

Why Grass-Fed Butter Is One of the Best Foods You Can…

By Ty BollingerJune 10, 2021One of the best animal-based fats you can eat is butter derived from pastured, grass-fed animals. It’s rich in butyrate, a short-chain saturated fatty acid that a healthy colon also produces from dietary fiber. Grass-fed butter is an amazing health food that aids in supplying the body with nutrient-dense fats while promoting a healthy digestive tract.Grass-fed butter is rich in fat-soluble vitamins like true vitamin A, vitamin D, vitamin K, and vitamin E, as well as all of their naturally-occurring cofactors that aid in absorption. These butter “catalysts” or “activators,” as Dr. Weston Price once referred to them, are what our bodies use to effectively absorb vitamins and minerals. Without them, it wouldn’t matter how many nutrients we ingested – very few of them would actually make it to their intended targets.Butterfat is critical for sexual development and reproduction as its fat-soluble vitamins support healthy endocrine function. It also contains what’s known as the “Wulzen Factor,” or the “anti-stiffness” factor. Only present in raw animal fat, this substance protects humans and animals against calcification of the joints (aka degenerative arthritis). It also protects against hardening of the arteries, cataracts, and calcification of the pineal gland.Butter further

Study links consumption of high-fructose corn syrup to…

A recent study has found that high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS), a common sweetener used in soft drinks, promotes the growth of intestinal tumors. Excessive consumption of products sweetened with HFCS is also linked to obesity and metabolic syndrome. According to the researchers behind the study, the epidemic of obesity seen around the world today is primarily caused by the increased consumption of sugar-laden beverages. Coincidentally, this rise in obesity rates is also paralleled by an increase in colorectal cancer incidence, especially among young and middle-aged adults. As early as 2013, studies have emerged suggesting that obesity increases the risk of colorectal cancer. Some of the plausible mechanisms believed to be behind this association include insulin resistance, chronic inflammation and alterations in the levels of growth factors, adipocytokines (hormones secreted by fat cells) and steroid hormones. However, the influence of these proposed mechanisms still remains to be fully explored. Another thing that is unclear about all this is if heavily sweetened products — the main culprits behind obesity — directly promote colorectal cancer development. To remove obesity and the metabolic syndrome as confounding factors, the researchers mimicked the consumption of sugar-laden drinks in mice that have been genetically engineered to develop intestinal tumors. This allowed them to determine whether HFCS, in

The Down-Low on Dietary Fats: Are You Getting Enough of…

It was March 1984 when TIME magazine published a famous issue featuring on its cover a plate containing two eggs cooked sunny side up with a single strip of bacon placed directly underneath them. The two yolks and their surrounding whites were positioned as eyes, and the bacon strip below was curved downwards to look like a frown. Printed above this face-like display of breakfast food was the word “CHOLESTEROL” in bold, followed by the ominous words, “And Now the Bad News…” immediately below it.Eager to learn what was so bad about these two foods that they had grown up eating, concerned readers across America opened that chilling cover and flipped through the pages until they were greeted with the headline of doom…“Sorry, It’s True. Cholesterol Really Is A Killer.” The succeeding article text went on to declare that cholesterol and dietary fats of the saturated persuasion are both unhealthy. It was the nutrition shot heard around the world that would spark the low-fat diet craze of the 80s, setting off several decades’ worth of misguided dietary advice. The public was encouraged to avoid foods like butter in exchange for margarine, and so-called “vegetable” oils were pushed as a healthy alternative

Heal Your Body With Ginseng (+ 9 Health Benefits)

Ginseng is an herb with many different varieties, the most common being American ginseng and Asian ginseng. These plants are known to have outstanding medicinal properties, including benefits for cancer patients. There are 11 types of ginseng, all of which belong to the Panax genus. In Greek, Panax means “all-healing,” which is appropriate for this amazing herb. For centuries, people have used ginseng to treat depression and fatigue, improve memory & endurance, and boost immune function. While filming for our documentary Eastern Medicine: Journey Through Asia, we spoke with Dr. Chien Fu Chen, who lists ginseng as one of the most important herbs in traditional Chinese medicine. Ginseng is a powerful antioxidant as well as an anti-inflammatory. Some studies have shown that Panax ginseng can also improve immune function in patients recovering from conventional cancer treatments like surgery and chemotherapy. One doctor that we interviewed uses double fermented ginseng, which can make this herb even more effective in fighting cancer.Though various types of ginseng extracts or derivatives have shown anticancer properties in human cancer cell lines, there are no published clinical trials evaluating ginseng’s efficacy in a human population. Ty and I have seen this time and time again with herbs and

80 Groups Blast US Interference in Mexico’s…

A coalition of 80 U.S. agricultural, consumer, environmental, public health, and worker groups sent a letter Thursday to key figures in the Biden administration calling for them to “respect Mexico’s sovereignty and refrain from interfering with its right to enact health-protective policies”—specifically, the phaseout of the herbicide glyphosate and the cultivation of genetically modified corn.“It is completely unacceptable for U.S. public agencies to be doing the bidding of pesticide corporations like Bayer.”—Kristin Schafer, PANNA“Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador quietly rocked the agribusiness world with his New Year’s Eve decree,” Timothy A. Wise of the Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy (ITAP) noted earlier this year. “His administration sent an even stronger aftershock two weeks later, clarifying that the government would also phase out GM corn imports in three years and the ban would include not just corn for human consumption but yellow corn destined primarily for livestock.”“Mexico imports about 30% of its corn each year, overwhelmingly from the United States,” Wise added. “Almost all of that is yellow corn for animal feed and industrial uses. López Obrador’s commitment to reducing and, by 2024, eliminating such imports reflects his administration’s plan to ramp up Mexican production as part of the campaign to

Despite the Bad Rap, Tomatoes are a Cancer-Busting Food

Believe it or not, the health benefits of tomatoes for fighting cancer are pretty legendary—and fully backed by science too! Read on about how research is setting the record straight regarding the health benefits of tomatoes, including their cancer-protective properties. Health Benefits of Tomatoes Let’s take a look at the long list of the health benefits of tomatoes first, and then we will discuss how researchers have traced these benefits to particular substances. According to recent studies, tomatoes can have substantial benefits for: What Makes Tomatoes So Healthy? The key to all of these health benefits has to do with the fruit’s rich phytonutrient content, as well as its vitamin and mineral content. Side note: yes, a tomato is technically a fruit since it contains a flower and seeds, although some experts call it a vegetable. Whether they are red, yellow or purple, tomatoes are a rich source of many nutrients such as vitamin C, vitamin E, vitamin K, potassium, copper, manganese, folate, and fiber. It is a particular kind of carotenoid called lycopene that gives tomatoes their cancer-fighting edge, however. A 2005 Canadian study found that “a diet rich in tomatoes and tomato-based products with high lycopene content

Stevia: The Healthy Ancient Sweetener {Plus a MUST-HAVE…

You’ve likely heard of Stevia, the popular sweetener that everyone seems to hail as the new healthy alternative to sugar. But is the hype justified? Let’s take a look. The stevia plant is a member of the daisy and ragweed family, also known as candyleaf, sweetleaf, and sugarleaf (scientific name Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni). It has been used for more than 1,500 years by the indigenous Guarani people of Brazil and Paraguay as a natural sweetener, medicine, and sweet treat.1 Stevia is unlike other sugar substitutes in that it’s derived from a plant rather than artificially synthesized. The Italian botanist, Moises Santiago Bertoni, is often credited with the discovery of stevia in the late 1800s. However, native Guarani people had already been using it for centuries to treat burns, colic, and stomach problems. They also habitually chewed the leaves as a sweet treat. Today, the stevia plant is cultivated widely for those sweet leaves, which are used to make many commercially available, non-caloric, artificial sweeteners. The natural chemical compounds in stevia leaves that are responsible for its sweetness are known as steviol glycosides – specifically, stevioside, rebaudioside (which has 5 variations: A, B, C, D, E, and F), steviolbioside, and isosteviol.
